Getting to know Sue...
Sue Powers was selected the 2013 LPGA National Teacher of the Year, the LPGA’s highly prestigious honor given annually to the top teacher in the nation. In 2017, Sue was also named by Women's Golf Journal to the LPGA Top 50 Best Teachers list.
Sue was a founding member of the San Jose State Women’s golf team under the direction of LPGA Hall of Famer, Betty Hicks. She has been a highly respected and recognized member of the LPGA T&CP division since 2004 and fast tracked to Class A status in 2006. Sue is actively involved with the LPGA and has held the officer positions of Southeast Section Secretary and Southeast Section President. She has also been a Member Advisor, mentoring new members of the LPGA, has conducted seminars for the LPGA, has been involved in the LPGA National Educational Program as a guest instructor and was selected as an instructor for the LPGA Golf Academy pilot program with Celebrity Cruise Lines,
Sue is employed as the LPGA Class A Teaching Professional and Financial Controller at Pelican Pointe Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida. She is a certified Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) instructor and a Frankly Frog Putting instructor. In her teaching role, she conducts individual and couples lessons, golf schools, clinics, and seminars on all aspects of the game. Sue’s use of TPI assessments. exercise programs, emotional focus and the use of video coupled with swing changes, allows her students to continue to play and enjoy the sport they have come to love.
In 2008, Sue joined Ladies Links Fore Golf, LLC, the official online amateur golf community of the LPGA. In addition to overseeing the financial operation at Ladies Links Fore Golf, she also traveled throughout the United States as one of their expert teaching instructors, sharing her golf and teaching knowledge through education, improvement and promotion of the enjoyment of the game to individuals and groups. Sue was a contributing writer for Ladies Links Fore Golf.
In 2014, she partnered with LPGA professional Teresa Zamboni and LPGA and World Golf Hall Of Famer Nancy Lopez to form Nancy Lopez Golf Adventures. The company promoted the "Play Happy' philosophies that helped Nancy Lopez win 48 times on the LPGA tour.
Sue uses her teaching knowledge effectively as the Golf Coach for Special Olympics, giving children and adults with intellectual disabilities a continuing opportunity to develop physical fitness, embrace challenges and learn daily life lessons through the joy of golf and friendship. She also gives back to the game of golf as an LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Site Director.
